In September, Cole Public Library will host a series of classes offered by Linn County Master Gardeners. Four Master Gardeners will present a garden program on four consecutive Monday evenings starting at 6:30pm in Room 108. The classes are free and do not require pre-registration. This is a collaborative program with Lisbon Library – the libraries switch off hosting Master Gardener Talks each year.
The subjects and presenters are as follows:
September 8th: Blueberries
Yes, we can grow blueberries, too. Learn how to adjust your soil, where to plant, and how much to water. Learn what different types of blueberries can grow in Iowa, and how to prune.
September 15th: Small Space Garden Planning
Gardening can be overwhelming when you are limited to a smaller space. With proper planning you can grow the plants. Learn how to choose what to grow, using the entire season to your advantage, and plan creative ways to fit more in the space you have.
September 22nd: Homesteading
Learning to become self-sufficient or living “off the grid” is no easy feat. In this class we will talk about everything from establishing fruits and perennial vegetables to managing the harvest at the end of the season.
September 29th: Hydroponic Produce
You can grow fresh leafy greens and herbs all year long with a hydroponics system. In this session, we will learn the process for setting up and operating a home mini-hydroponics system, and provide some low-cost do-it-yourself system examples.
All are welcome at these informative sessions. Contact Grace Chamberlain at gchamberlain@cornellcollege.edu or 319-895-5940 with question.
